Days of a Colloquium of Cuban Light Rum
Like the rum elaboration process -solemn and patient-, the 5th International Scientific and Technical Colloquium of Light Rum was held during three days, in Havana. From May 24th to 26th, 200 national delegates and people from other 10 countries met to discuss issues related to the production, marketing and promotion of Cuban rum, both inside and outside the island.
Santa Cruz and San José: travel to the center of the process
Cuban light rum appeared for the first time in Santiago de Cuba, around 1862. Then, a "rough and heavy rum" was well-known: Tafia, which was consumed by corsairs and pirates, and it is also necessary to mention the traditional sugarcane, processed without refining its elements. The truth is that since those first moments of this "light" drink, its presence has been inextricably linked to the idiosyncrasy of the island, its artistic manifestations, and even popular healing remedies.
Favorable prospects for the packaging of spirits
Although the tradition of Cuban light rum has been growing during more than 154 years, it is an industry that is renewed and consolidated. In this regard, it is necessary to strengthen the capabilities for the packaging of spirit drinks, and that was one of the main issues addressed at the 5th International Scientific and Technical Colloquium of Light Rum.
