The International Taste Institute (ITQI) awarded the Cubay Extra Añejo 1870 Rum with two stars for excellence, Orlando Borrero, president of the Cuba Ron S.A. Corporation, highlighted today.
Borrero also commented to Prensa Latina that this result ratifies the positioning in Europe of the Cuban rum by its quality, as well as the potentialities to continue growing in a very demanding market.
"We can say that this is not the first recognition to the excellence of our products, since they date from 2013", Borrero said, after receiving the award last Friday from the ITQI, institute with seat in Brussels, considered a world-wide leader in the evaluation and certification of foods and drinks for human consumption.
According to Borrero, before the Cubay Extra Añejo 1870 Rum, the Santiago Extra Añejo 12 Años Rum was awarded in 2013, also with two stars, while in 2016, 2017 and 2018 the Isla del Tesoro Rum received three stars, which deserved another award by its achievement of three consecutive annual prizes.
"Without any doubt, this is a distinctive element of Cuba Ron S.A. Corporation rums, so we work very hard in order to maintain this over the time, and demonstrate therefore the quality of our products", Borrero commented, who led a delegation integrated by the Vice President of Business, Yuset Llerena, and the Legal Director, Alicia Martinez.
During this stay at Belgium, the Cuban representation scheduled some activities, including meetings with businessmen to whom they exposed the wide range of available products.
As reported by Borrero, the Cuban delegation also exchanged with the interlocutors of the main partners of the corporation, as world leaders in the distribution of spirits like Pernod Ricard, with Havana Club; Diageo, with the Santiago de Cuba Rum; and Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, with Eminente brand.
In his dialogue with Prensa Latina, the manager insisted on the strength achieved in terms of quality and excellence by the products from Cuba Ron S.A.
In terms of market, he declared that Europe remains as the most important one, with the insertion, through the mentioned distributors and partners, in countries like Germany, Spain, France, Italy and United Kingdom; and the objective of reaching other countries within the Old Continent, including Belgium itself.
The economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than 60 years has prevented the island from commercializing its products in that country, whose governments have also applied extraterritorial laws to hinder the Cuban business around the world.
Borrero emphasized, after this new recognition from the ITQI, the invaluable contribution of the Cuban Rum Masters movement and the manufacturing spaces in which they make their contribution.
"Let us remember that the knowledge of the Cuban Rum Masters was declared Cultural Heritage of the Cuban Nation. The request was recently submitted for UNESCO to declare the Knowledge of the Masters of Cuban Light Rum as Intangible Heritage of Humanity, and accepted by the specialized body of the UN", he said.
